Neutral Eclectic Boho - An Interview with Ali @home_and_things

When you first cast your eyes onto Ali’s page its like a wonderland for those who love neutral, cool, soft, earthy tones. Dig a little deeper and you find a treasure chest of DIY and thrift ideas that suit all budgets and styles. True to herself, Ali’s personality shines through all her posts. She describes herself as a homebody and a lover of a good laugh.

Ali has an incredible eye for combining hero home decor pieces with your bargain finds off Facebook Marketplace & Gumtree - and she did just that with some of my most loved pieces. The ‘All things Neutral’ Marrakesh Pom Pom Blanket and Sheeba Lumbar Cushion fell into heaven when in landed in Ali’s bedroom. Seamlessly draped over Ali’s bed the Marrakesh looked like it was made for the room. The mustard pom poms brought out the hints of dusty orange in her  whimsical rug and perfectly placed furniture. For the lay styling person like myself, I stare into Ali’s wonderland of pictures and daydream about how she makes it look so effortless.

I asked Ali what her style was and she responded…Neutral Eclectic Boho. It is pretty clear by the support and love Ali receives online that her style appeals to a broad audience. Its hard not to love watching someone create amazing rooms on predominately a thrifters budget!!! Ali hinted that she has some amazing collaborations with artists and designers in the pipe works that we should keep an eye out for.

I begged her to share some of that styling magic and being the kind and generous person she is, Ali accepted and shared some tips …

Ali’s top 3 Tips for re-creating her style:

  1. Try sourcing one off pieces like pots, urns, mirrors or vintage furnitures off Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or thrift markets - a little TLC will make a beautiful pre-loved item shine like new
  2. HAVE FUN! Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns, textures, art and furniture. Don’t get caught up in thinking here is a right or wrong way to style - as long as you love it - go -for -it!!!
  3. Get GREEN! You don’t have to be a green thumb to have real plants. Opt for low maintenance plants like devils ivy, Zanzibar gem, peace Lillies or Congo plants. Not only will they freshen up any room they will also clean the air.

I asked Ali one last question - For those like me, who can’t for whatever reason commit to large scale renovations or redecorating, what simple things can we do to freshen up our home? Ali suggested to focus on changing some basic decor, like new towels in bathroom, new cushions on the couch or new bed sheets.

Thank you Ali for supporting my thrift shopping... when my other half asks where all this sudden inspiration is coming from Im sending him your way ~~

All things Neutral xoxo
